Majorities (Original Poem)

Once or thrice upon a time
and reading through the
thoroughly minimum-waged

reams of new programs.
But you don’t see many appealing changes
nullified by a show of hands,
by loving partnerships
that are nobody else’s business.
Basic mercenaries

consenting to something;
certain fast-food,
morally unobjectionable
whopper tyrannies
enacted by a show of hands.

So inexact, one might say,
with a hierarchy of opponents and allies;
the same old problem.

But at fifteen-an-hour?
You ought to pay up.
